Jesus Christ Glorified in the Sons of God

New JerusalemRomans 8:19 says “the anxious watching of the creation eagerly awaits the revelation of the sons of God.” This revelation will come when the Lord Jesus returns from heaven visibly and this revelation will be enlarged when New Jerusalem comes down out of heaven (Rev. 21:2, 10).

Colossians 3:4 describes it in this way, “When Christ our life is manifested, then you also will be manifested with Him in glory.” This glory will be shining both around us and from within us. Hebrews 2:10 says God is “leading many sons into glory” and 2 Thessalonians 1:10 tells us the Lord Jesus Christ “comes to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at in all those who have believed.”

The emphasis here is clearly on the Lord — “He comes to be glorified” and “He comes…to be marveled at.” This glory is in us but the focus is Him, not us. The ultimate step of this glory is New Jerusalem, “having the glory of God” (Rev. 21:11) “for the glory of God illumined it” (21:23).
