Letting Shame Fuel Our Prayers - Denise Pass

Shame RX: Prayer defuses shame.

1 Chronicles 4:9-10

“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.”

When we fail, epically, or cause pain enough to be mentioned in Scripture for it, I bet there is bound to be shame. A lot of it. But Jabez rose from that shame with a mighty prayer.

Sometimes when we feel shunned or labeled, we can feel like there is no hope and start to believe that the shame will never go away.

But for Jabez, it only took a prayer. Crying out to God and trusting that He hears us. Sometimes we can get discouraged because it feels like our circumstances remain the same, but God does a work in our heart that can live in any circumstance. And we rise above shame.

For more insights into this incredible prayer of Jabez, check out the post this week on the Seeing Deep blog, where we look at what maade this prayer so special.
