THE DEFENCE IN WISDOM

Memorise: “For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it” ( Ecclesiastes 7:12 )

Read: Ecclesiastes 7:11-12

Pastor E. Adeboye

In 2 Kings 6:13-14 , after the Syrian king was told Elisha was the main obstacle to his victory over Israel, he sent spies on espionage activities towards him. This shows that wisdom is needed to fight spiritual warfare.

Ecclesiastes 9:18 says, “Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good”. You may have the most equipped armoury but if you lack wisdom to use it effectively, you may still lose the battle. In any case, the presence of wisdom in your life makes weapons unnecessary. If you go for weapons, pray for wisdom. It is wisdom, not weapons that secures victory!

Today’s reading says wisdom is as good as an inheritance – wealth or fortune bequeathed to somebody, and even better. Verse 12 says like money, wisdom is a defence. Do you know that most problems people get into are avoidable?

Wise believers avoid pitfalls that ensnare their foolish counterparts. If you rest when you should, work without burning out, eat balanced diet that will not cause unnecessary health risks, and steer clear from sin, with some bit of daily exercises and fruits, you may never go to a hospital for weeks, months, years or throughout your life! That is wisdom! By applying your knowledge on healthy living backed up by scriptures, you defend yourself against sicknesses.

In Leviticus 11 , God clearly stated that certain animals, birds and fishes may or may not be eaten. Never be carried away by what some people count as ‘enjoyment’. Some meals and continental dishes add nothing to the eater other than trouble. Medical science and nutrition experts have confirmed what the scripture says.

It is wisdom to reduce sugar intake at a certain age, say from 35 or 40 years to prevent certain sicknesses. It is wisdom to opt for honey and take less of sugar. If you can cast all your cares on Jesus and leave them there, that is wisdom.

It will defend you against hypertension, stroke, shock or sudden death. It is wisdom to acquire knowledge about various aspects of life and apply such in preventing the unwanted. Unlike money, wisdom gives life to its owner. Ask God daily for wisdom.

There is a wealth of knowledge on the earth surface. Experiences of many have been documented in books. Only the foolish will not take advantage of this.
