Living Stones for God’s Building (2)

Psalm 118:22, speaking about Jesus Christ: “The stone which the builders rejected / Has become the head of the corner.” The Lord Jesus quoted this in Matt. 21:42 and Luke 20:17.

New JerusalemThe Jewish leaders rejected the Lord Jesus and had Him crucified. Then in resurrection He became “the Head of the corner.” The Lord is the Cornerstone and Foundation in resurrection and all God’s building from now to New Jerusalem is in resurrection.

In Matthew 16:18-19 the Lord spoke about building the church as the kingdom. Then in 16:21 He immediately continued to His death and resurrection. This was for the fulfillment of Psalm 118. And by experiencing His death and resurrection we also enter into God’s building work.

We have been crucified with Christ and raised with Him (Rom. 6:4-5). Thus we are in resurrection as “living stones” (1 Peter 2:5) and it is here that we participate in God’s building. The ultimate stage of this building is New Jerusalem, which has “light was like a most precious stone” (Rev. 21:11).

    The Mall or the Manger?

Much has changed since the God of the universe decorated the night sky with the star of Bethlehem and directed the choir of angels in a chorus announcing the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. But the commercialism doesn’t have to rule in our hearts and homes. This year let’s focus on the Christ Child and remember the true meaning of the holiday season. As we turn our eyes to the Babe in the manger, we will not view Christmas as a dreaded obligation or a major retail event. It will be a time of joyous celebration, honoring the One Who came to give us eternal life and worshipping our Heavenly Father.
