New Jerusalem, the Eternal House of the Living God

In Numbers 12:7 the Lord says about Moses, “He is faithful in all My house.” Here house denotes the nation of Israel. The Old Testament tabernacle and temple were outward signs of God’s dwelling but God’s real dwelling place is His people.

At the beginning of the New Testament Jesus Christ is the reality of the tabernacle (John 1:14) and of the temple (John 2:19-22). After dying and resurrecting He imparted Himself as life into His believers thereby making them participants in God’s dwelling place.

New JerusalemTherefore 1 Timothy 3:15 says, “the house of God, which is the church of the living God.” The living God has a living house, which is composed of God in all His people.

The living God would never be content to have a physical structure as His dwelling. Instead, He has gained the beginning of His house through regenerating us and is building the fullness of this house by imparting more of Himself into us to grow within each of us. This is Ephesians 4:16 and Colossians 2:19.

New Jerusalem is the ultimate issue of the building up of the Body of Christ as the living house of the living God.
