On Family Purpose
Purpose can be a loaded word, for it speaks of intention and why something, or someone exists. It is wrapped in determination and fortitude, ultimate design and longing. We know it is extremely important and that God has a purpose for each and every one of us, but have you thought about your own life’s purpose being in sync with those around you, benefiting them in a way that will change your life and theirs forever? You most likely have and that is good, yet how many times do we let our (calling and/or work) get in the way of our friends, spouse, and even children?
I know I have.
I recently read a book called Start With Your People written by Brian J. Dixon, and it helped give insight on the importance of creating balance with the people in my life and the work I am called to. I met Brian through Hope Writers, and found that he is a man who loves God and wants to match his desires with God’s desires and simply put, serve well, and— I like that.
"For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." – Galatians 5:13 ESV
Sometimes we need to let go of difficult processes and answers and use the simple ones instead. One simple answer that I know can solve a lot of issues in our homes, families and lives, is to literally, like Brian says, start with our people and serve them well. Shouldn’t we approach purpose in the same way? If we start with our purpose (which includes our people) we can live and serve well. These two elements go hand in hand perfectly!
We need to get clarity in what God is calling us to and incorporate that into our purpose as a family! I believe that whether you are on your own, there are two of you, or a whole crew— developing a family purpose is essential to moving mountains, gaining traction and living intentionally.
This week I have created a printable for you called 3 Steps Closer To Creating a Family Purpose. I am far from perfect in the process, but it is making a big difference for our family and others. I pray it will help simplify and bring focus to the areas in your life and family that needs it the most…
