Our Veteran Unemployment Journey Cont'd

Veteran Unemployment. Trusting God in the Silence

You may remember several months ago my husband, Mark, chiming in to write a post on our season of Veteran Unemployment (check it out here).

Yes, we are still holding on and continuing through this season of complete dependency on Him.

It has been very disheartening to go through this experience, simply because of the frustrating realities of our country’s economy and job placement policies.  They seem to be upside down and often absurd.

But, this is not why I am sharing an update today.

This season has been challenging to say the least.  We try to do our best with the savings that we have, stretching it as much as we can to prayerfully keep us together until Yahweh pulls in a job for Mark, but sometimes it just feels like this season is never going to end and somewhere along the way we are all just going to fall flat on our faces in defeat.

I know that these thoughts are simply fears of the unknown and probably the effects of movies running through the crevices of my mind, but when they come, they can be completely debilitating.

Fear’s like that.  Controlling.  Deceiving.  Paralyzing.

And, unemployment provides a prime opportunity to set a framework where the possible horrible things that, honestly, could happen to anyone and everyone at any given time suddenly seem like they are probable.

But, this season has also been incredibly liberating and freeing from so much of the burdens of the day-to-day that tag along with a pseudo-security found in predictable paychecks and a known job to go to tomorrow.  Dependency on God alone brings with it a fulfilling joy from which the faithful can really grow and learn.

I surely look forward to the day when we aren’t scouring our bank account for ways to reduce expenses, or constantly wracking our brains to try to figure out ways to bring in even a trickle of money, but I know one thing for sure will last; the experience of God’s provision when security is not so secure.

Here are some scriptures that Yahweh has placed on my heart while we walk through the silent path of still waters, waiting for Him to pull us to the mountain top where we can shout our victory song.  I have no doubt that this day will come, and when it does, you will surely know =0)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.  Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”  ~ Jeremiah 29: 11-13

“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” ~ Psalm 37: 25

““Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” ~ Matthew 6: 31-34

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 1: 6
