Qualities of God: How to receive divine promises

Qualities of God: How to receive divine promises

Memorise: “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister” (Hebrews 6:10)

Read: Hebrews 6:17-19

“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18).

Although Luke 1:37 and some other Bible passages say all things are possible with God, He however has certain limitations. God can do all things except outside His limitations. These limitations however do not constitute weaknesses on His part, but strengths. Today’s reading says God cannot lie.

He is the embodiment of truth. The day God lies, He will not only deny Himself but also stop to be God. The beauty of this limitation is that He is bound to keep whatever promise He has made to you as long as you remain in faith, obedience and holiness.

It may take several years, but it will surely come to pass. Is there a promise you have been waiting on God for? Don’t be discouraged. God cannot be a liar because of you. He will surely fulfil it.

Similarly, according to Romans 9:14 , God cannot be unrighteous. Infact, Hebrews 6:10 says denying a worker his wages for work done constitutes unrighteousness. This assures you that God records all your works and years of labour for His Kingdom, and He will definitely reward you.

Some rewards will come here on earth while the greater portion is reserved for you in eternity. If you cannot see God’s reward for your labours, challenge Him by His Word. God cannot owe any man when He has commanded us not to owe others. Your pending reward is reserved, not lost. Ask for it.

In addition, God cannot violate His Word because it is forever established in Heaven. (Psalm 119:89). A knowledge of this limitation should guide us in the place of prayer. Many believers constantly ask God to violate His Word. He cannot because God and His Word are the same (John 1:1). Asking God to curse the one God has blessed may cause such a curse to boomerang.

Asking God to kill the person God wants alive will meet with disappointment. Some Christians divorce their wives and pray and fast for God to give them another. God has no second wife for such people! Asking God to bless a fraudulent business, ministry or government will amount to violating His Word. If you want God’s blessing, you must come out of that sinful relationship. Asking God to break His Word is asking God to abdicate His throne as God. It cannot happen!

Many prayers are unanswered because they violate God’s will and Word. Asking God to break His Word shows lack of knowledge of God’s Word. Are you a culprit?
