Reign in Life, Now and New Jerusalem

Romans 5:17 promises that “those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” In the context of Romans 5, this is to reign over sin, including negative actions and inward attitudes such as anger and jealousy, and to reign over the death that comes from sin.New Jerusalem

Romans 5:21 emphasizes the same, “just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” As we receive grace, even abundantly, it reigns in us to fill us with the divine life. This is the divine life that the Lord came to give us abundantly (John 10:10b).

In Revelation 20 sin and death, and Satan as their source, are all cast into the lake of fire. Thus in New Jerusalem there will be no need to reign over sin, but in New Jerusalem we will still be reigning with Christ!

Revelation 22 has some description of life in eternity. Verse 3 says “His slaves will serve Him” and verse 5 tells us that “they will reign forever and ever.” They in verse 5 being His slaves in verse 3. In New Jerusalem we will still receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness and we will continue to reign in life.

Fall meant that a box of apples and another one of pears from the farm of one of our uncles would surely be arriving any day. Fresh fruit was hard to get and expensive up north back then. And y
