Renewing unto New Jerusalem (4)
Colossians 3:9-11 presents both the old man and the new man. It also says that in this new man “Christ is all and in all.” This should be our experience now and will be our living in full in New Jerusalem.
Ephesians 4 has a parallel to Colossians 3. Verse 4:22 says we put off the old man and describes this old man as “being corrupted according to the lusts of the deceit.” Verse 25 defines the old man as “the lie.” Don’t say that human society has good aspects; they are good in man’s view but not in God’s view. Say amen to God’s word!
Verse 4:23 is being “renewed in the spirit of your mind.” See the first post in this group.
Verse 4:24, “and put on the new man, which was created according to God in righteousness and holiness of the reality.” The new man does not have righteousness or justice of human society nor does he have religious holiness. The new man lives in “righteousness and holiness of the reality.”
The reality here is the same Greek word that Jesus used in John 14:6, “I am the truth/reality.” The righteousness and holiness of the new man is Christ living in us. This is Colossians 3:11, “Christ is all and in all” which should be increasing now to the fullness of New Jerusalem.
