Robert Breaker's Salvation Theology Is a Modern Doctrine, Part 1: Ante-Nicene Period

Robert Breaker, on May 5th, 2026, made this livestream: "Faith in the Blood is NOT a Modern Doctrine." In it, he reads multiple historical quotes and says it shows his salvation theology had 'historical backing'. I will fact check all of these quotes.

Let's define his salvation theology.

When I say his salvation theology is modern, I mean having a specific salvation theology where salvation is premised upon a sinner consciously trusting SPECIFICALLY in the Blood of Jesus Christ as their distinct saving object of faith. I mean the theology is that you aren't saved unless you single out the blood of Jesus Christ and focus on that, and trust "with all your heart" in the singled-out blood of Jesus Christ for salvation.

The Blood of Christ is our object of faith, and to be saved one must consciously focus on the blood of Christ and trust in it with all of their heart for salvation.

Breaker: "he's looking at your heart and he's looking to see when does your heart trust the blood alone for salvation you can come to him begging him please don't send me to hell but it's not until from the heart you're trusting in the blood that you're saved" - Robert Breaker, The Message of the Blood, 45:40

"And it's not just, as this guy said, a mental assent. Oh, I just believe it with my head. It's trusting in it with all of your heart. There's some people out there that believe it with their head, but they've never accepted it with their heart. That's somebody who's not saved." - Robert Breaker, Faith in the Blood is Faith in the Atoning Work of Jesus! #faithintheblood #atonement #bloodofjesus, 53:40

The blood of Jesus Christ is Robert Breaker's III specific object of faith for salvation.

"the Bible says You must trust the blood... but you haven’t trusted the blood you’re not saved yet" - Robert Breaker, The Blood of Jesus: The Mechanics of Salvation or the Object of our Faith? #bloodofchrist, starting at 18:38

Confessing/Calling as the condition for salvation is a work.

Robert Breaker , November 6, 2025

“Is to confess with their mouth that the Lord is Jesus or Jesus is Lord. Wouldn’t that be Israel? So what I read Romans 10, I see Jews asking Paul, ‘Hey, what about Israel?’ And he says, ‘Well, if a guy is a Jew and he has confessed that Jesus is his Lord, that Jesus is his Messiah, and if he believes that God hath raised him from the dead, well then he can be saved.’ So if he believes in who and what, then he’ll be saved. I don’t think he’s telling you you have to do both and that you have to say with the mouth or you’re not saved. If he’s saying you have to believe from your heart in something and say it with your mouth at the same time, then that would be a faith plus works gospel. And that would nullify what Jesus did because it’s not just what he did, it’s what you say, which would be a work.”

The best example is me. Gene Kim told me that Jesus had died, was buried and resurrected, so his blood could wash away my sins.

1. Robert Breaker says at points that Romans 10:10 is a byproduct of faith, which is John Calvin's view.

2. Robert Breaker says at points that Romans 10:13 calling is not a mouth response, but an automatic heart response. He uses 2 Timothy 2:22 as the proof verse despite Christ defining things coming out of your heart as a physical action (see Matthew 12:34).

But to receive that as a condition for salvation, I must ask God to save me with my mouth.

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner. As I repent, I put my faith that Jesus is God and that He died, was buried, and resurrected so that His blood can wash away my sins. I put my faith in that alone to save me, not my good works. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

According to Robert Breaker, I was not saved and am on my way to hell, as though I trusted the blood. Any interpretation of Romans 10:9-15 which views calling as a condition for salvation is a damnable gospel, and will lead you to hell.

So, Robert Breaker's salvation theology is this. To be saved, you must specifically trust the blood of Jesus Christ as your distinct object of faith. And salvation is premised upon trusting the blood of Jesus Christ with all of your heart for salvation.

Here's the problem, Robert Breaker has three categories which must be fulfilled.

1. Salvation is faith alone

2. The Blood of Jesus Christ is your distinct object of salvation and you must SPECIFICALLY focus on the Blood of Christ for your salvation.

3. Calling as a condition for salvation, as described in Romans 10:9-16 is a work

That is a impossible three categories to fulfill. What Robert Breaker does instead is, he goes to people who talk about the blood of Christ and then say well, they fit all three categories.

Every single person quoted will be tried on these three categories.

I just want to summarize.

Robert Breaker believes that to be saved, one must specifically trust the BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST as their individual object of saving faith.

"you see the confession isn't what saves you it's the belief in the heart so if you're not saved and you want to be saved and you don't want to go to hell why don't you just bow your head and close your eyes and just go to the Lord and tell him that what you've heard from the scripture today is true because the Bible says it is now why don't you say I accept what you've done for me I'd rely upon that finished work I trust your blood to save my soul see the prayer isn't what saves you it's whether or not your faith is in the shed blood of Jesus Christ if your faith is not in that blood then you're not saved if your faith is in that blood then you're on your way to heaven" - Robert Breaker, How to Be Saved, October 9th, 2010, starting at 10:15

You are not saved if you did not specifically trust in the blood of Jesus Christ with all your heart.

The blood of Jesus Christ and trusting it are saving faith according to Robert Breaker.

He may say, "you believe the gospel to be saved," but he redefines every aspect of the death, burial, and resurrection, i.e., the gospel, to be about the blood of Jesus Christ.

"It's not the death that saves you. It's how he died and what he did when he rose from the dead. And it's all focused on the blood. For it is the blood that maketh atonement for the soul." - Robert Breaker, Faith in the Blood is Faith in the Atoning Work of Jesus! #faithintheblood #atonement #bloodofjesus, 47:43

So, if you have not trusted the blood of Jesus Christ SPECIFICALLY as your object of faith with all your heart for salvation, and the blood, the physical blood, you are lost and on your way to hell.

"verse 5 much more than being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him verse 11 and not only so but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom we have now received the atonement salvation is receiving the atonement of Christ by faith yes amen it's not oh God now please save me now because I want to be safe sincerity is not what saves us you could be very sincere when you pray that but if you haven't TRUSTED IN THE BLOOD are you receiving salvation are you just begging for it and uh I call that the Beggars gospel I could sit here and say Ray please give me ten thousand dollars does he give it to me because I asked him for it" - Robert Breaker, Livestream With Brandon Bernardi July 2023, starting at 52:34

"Your works don't save you. What you say doesn't save you. What you pray doesn't save you. It's whether or not you're believing IN THE BLOOD." - Robert Breaker, What Faith in the Blood Really Means #faithintheblood #faithinjesus #bloodofjesus #bloodofchrist, 28:19

“I glorify God, even Jesus Christ, who has given you such wisdom, for I have observed that you are perfected in an immovable faith, as if it were nailed to the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” - Ignatius of Antioch, Smyrnæans 1:3.

This is a real quote, however how Ignatius of Antioch doesn't in this quote do.

1. Salvation is by faith alone

2. You must specifically focus on the blood of Christ for your salvation

3. Calling as a condition for salvation is a work

He writes that their faith is as immovable as Jesus Christ's cross, not any of the above categories.

"And what was that faith? Well, the context is the faith in the blood, because that's what Paul said to put your faith in. So, he's telling you it's an immovable faith, faith in the blood." - Robert Breaker.

This is eisegesis and a logical leap.

"Eisegesis is the process of interpreting text in such a way as to introduce one's own presuppositions, agendas or biases."

There is nothing in the text to indicate that he's specifically positioning the blood of Jesus Christ as your object of faith. This isn't even counting his idea of the Apostle Paul putting the blood of Jesus Christ as your object of faith. What about 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 or Romans 10, where he says saving faith is premised upon believing Jesus's resurrection and confessing him as Lord, and whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved?

See my "Robert Breaker disagrees with Martin Luther, Jan Hus, John Wesley and John Chrysostom on the Thief on the Cross being applicable to modern-day Christians" for an explanation on Romans 3:25.

Ignatius of Antioch mentioned a cross. How does that mean that the blood of Jesus Christ is the distinct object of faith in Ignatius of Antioch's soteriology?

Robert Breaker originally cited a different quote from Ignatius of Antioch in Chapter 8 of his book, The Unbroken Chain of Salvation by Faith in The Blood, which you can still buy on Kindle despite him claiming to delist (he only did the physical) the unbroken chain for the AI-generated fake quotes in Chapter 8.

He quoted: "Let no man deceive himself. Both the things which are in heaven, and the glorious angels, and princes, both visible and invisible, if they believe not in the blood of Christ, shall, in consequence, incur condemnation." - Ignatius of Antioch, Smyrnæans 6:1

Tony/Jeremiah333-JesusSaves (whom I deassociated with) wrote: "The REAL quote exists, but the VERY next paragraph (Chapter 7) lets you know Ignatius is speaking of the EUCHARIST."

Robert Breaker as a result of Tony stopped using Smyrnæans 6:1 and went to Smyrnæans 1, hence his struggle to make Smyrnæans 1:3 agree with him.

For time reasons, I won't get fully into Ignatius of Antioch and the Chapter. He was writing to Docetists who held that Jesus's physical form was purely spiritual. Even if he was speaking of the blood and not the Eucharist, he meant it as a synecdoche of the entire facts of the death, burial, and resurrection, due to Docetists not believing Jesus physically died, was buried, and resurrected.

“Understand what I say, the blood of circumcision is obsolete, and we trust in the blood of salvation. There is now another covenant another law that has gone forth from Zion.” - Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho, Chapter 24

For this to fit Robert Breaker's theology, it must fit three categories.

1. Salvation is by faith alone

Justin Martyr in his full context fails that one.

"And reckon that it is for your sakes we have been saying these things; for it is in our power, when we are examined, to deny that we are Christians; but we would not live by telling a lie. For, impelled by the desire of the eternal and pure life, we seek the abode that is with God, the Father and Creator of all, and hasten to confess our faith, persuaded and convinced as we are that they who have proved to God by their works that they followed Him, and loved to abide with Him where there is no sin to cause disturbance, can obtain these things. This, then, to speak shortly, is what we expect and have learned from Christ, and teach. And Plato, in like manner, used to say that Rhadamanthus and Minos would punish the wicked who came before them; and we say that the same thing will be done, but at the hand of Christ, and upon the wicked in the same bodies united again to their spirits which are now to undergo everlasting punishment; and not only, as Plato said, for a period of a thousand years. And if any one say that this is incredible or impossible, this error of ours is one which concerns ourselves only, and no other person, so long as you cannot convict us of doing any harm." - Justin Martyr, The First Apology, Chapter 8

He says you have to work to be saved.

"And we have been taught that He in the beginning did of His goodness, for man's sake, create all things out of unformed matter; and if men by their works show themselves worthy of this His design, they are deemed worthy, and so we have received — of reigning in company with Him, being delivered from corruption and suffering." - Justin Martyr, The First Apology, Chapter 10.

Justin Martyr's comment on faith in the blood is not a faith alone statement, let alone category 3.

“And moreover, they gave her a sign that she should hang out from her house a scarlet thread, thereby showing beforehand that through the blood of the Lord, there shall be redemption unto all them that believe.” - Clement of Rome, 1 Clement 12:7

This is the full context.

"On account of her faith and hospitality, Rahab the harlot was saved. For when spies were sent by Joshua, the son of Nun, to Jericho, the king of the country ascertained that they had come to spy out their land, and sent men to seize them, in order that, when taken, they might be put to death. But the hospitable Rahab receiving them, concealed them on the roof of her house under some stalks of flax. And when the men sent by the king arrived and said, There came men unto you who are to spy out our land; bring them forth, for so the king commands, she answered them, The two men whom you seek came unto me, but quickly departed again and are gone, thus not discovering the spies to them. Then she said to the men, I know assuredly that the Lord your God has given you this city, for the fear and dread of you have fallen on its inhabitants. When therefore you shall have taken it, keep ye me and the house of my father in safety. And they said to her, It shall be as you have spoken to us. As soon, therefore, as you know that we are at hand, you shall gather all your family under your roof, and they shall be preserved, but all that are found outside of your dwelling shall perish. Moreover, they gave her a sign to this effect, that she should hang forth from her house a scarlet thread. And thus they made it manifest that redemption should flow through the blood of the Lord to all them that believe and hope in God. You see, beloved, that there was not only faith, but prophecy, in this woman."

Before getting into the categories, where does he say the blood of Jesus Christ is a specific object of faith? Only that the redemption is through the blood which is achieved by believing and hoping in God.

1. Salvation is faith alone

Clement of Rome is one of the most contested writers in Early Church History.

He says in Chapter 30:

"Let us clothe ourselves with concord and humility, ever exercising self-control, standing far off from all whispering and evil-speaking, being justified by our works, and not our words."

So, he teaches you're justified by works salvation.

He does say things that sound like faith alone, like in Chapter 32:

"And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."

The dilemma for every Protestant and Catholic apologist attempting to claim Clement of Rome is which verse is more important?

If you say that he meant INITIAL SALVATION is by faith, then Chapter 30 is purely conditional security.

If you hold Chapter 30 above 32, you can say Clement of Rome held to a Tridentine justification soteriology, which is what Catholics do.

But even if you were to put Chapter 32 above Chapter 30, it would still not be sufficient. There is nowhere in Clement 12:7 that says the blood of Jesus Christ is the object of faith, and it must be trusted explicitly consciously on the blood of Jesus Christ for salvation. You lose on category 2.

“Let us fix our eyes on the blood of Christ, and understand how precious it is to the Father, because being shed for our salvation, it won for the whole world the grace of repentance.” - Clement of Rome, 1 Clement 7:3

Chapter 7.

"These things, beloved, we write unto you, not merely to admonish you of your duty, but also to remind ourselves. For we are struggling on the same arena, and the same conflict is assigned to both of us. Wherefore let us give up vain and fruitless cares, and approach to the glorious and venerable rule of our holy calling. Let us attend to what is good, pleasing, and acceptable in the sight of Him who formed us. Let us look steadfastly to the blood of Christ, and see how precious that blood is to God which, having been shed for our salvation, has set the grace of repentance before the whole world. Let us turn to every age that has passed, and learn that, from generation to generation, the Lord has granted a place of repentance to all such as would be converted unto Him. Noah preached repentance, and as many as listened to him were saved. Jonah proclaimed destruction to the Ninevites; Jonah iii but they, repenting of their sins, propitiated God by prayer, and obtained salvation, although they were aliens [to the covenant] of God."

Here's the problem with using this chapter.

Nowhere in the quoted section does he position the blood of Jesus Christ as your object of faith, only that the blood was shed for our salvation, not that it is an object of faith.

Clement of Rome says the blood was shed to win the grace of redemption.

“Let us look fixedly on the blood of Christ and understand how precious it is to His Father, because being shed for our salvation it won for the whole world the grace of repentance.”

A literal translation.

What is the grace of repentance?

"Let us turn to every age that has passed, and learn that, from generation to generation, the Lord has granted a place of repentance to all such as would be converted unto Him."

He then CITES HIS EXAMPLES.

"Noah preached repentance, and as many as listened to him were saved."

Okay, he doesn't explain this one any more, but keep reading.

"Jonah proclaimed destruction to the Ninevites; Jonah iii but they, repenting of their sins, propitiated God by prayer, and obtained salvation, although they were aliens [to the covenant] of God."

repenting of their sins, propitiated God by prayer, and obtained salvation.

A literal translation below.

“Jonah preached destruction to the men of Nineveh; but after repenting of their sins, they made atonement to God by their supplications and received salvation.”

Clement of Rome writes that the blood of Christ was shed for the grace of repentance, which he later clarifies as repenting and praying to God for salvation.

Breaker, you gave me this quote.

Clement of Rome fails on all three categories.

I will write a future article on Clement of Rome.
