THE BREAD OF LIFE - Jewell Utt
Imagine Christ, his arms outstretched, welcoming all who would come. That’s what I see when I look at the entrance of our new food pantry location. The double doors open out from the center reaching into the community. We have moved to our church building from a property located miles away. A special Spirit resides within this place. For it is the house of God. And what a privilege it is to enter.
More than physical food…we provide an encounter through prayer, conversation, refreshments and earnest care. That sweet spirit fills the rooms and the hearts of those we serve. Our volunteers are an extension of Christ, working as His hands and feet to the people.
This is the bread of life. The manna of Heaven.
It is through relationship that our deepest hunger is satisfied. But many of our clients have experienced the sting of life. For them, trust is a hard thing to muster. So we reach out in the name of Jesus. He is a friend who will never fail. Jesus says, “I Am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Trust is built and broken through earthly relationships. But Christ is found faithful and true.
While the food pantry gives away a few weeks of food. Eternal nutrition is found beyond its doors. Hungry souls experience fullness when they visit for a moment in the House of the Lord.
