Verse of the Day Psalm 121 5 with Dave Miers

    Psalm 121:5

The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. (ESV)

If you’ve ever stepped into a week feeling exposed or a bit alone, Psalm 121 is exactly the word you need.

It comes from the Songs of Ascent, the pilgrim playlist Israel sang on the long, dangerous journey back to Jerusalem. As they walked, they weren’t looking to inner strength, discipline, or quick fixes. Their hope was simple.

    The Lord will keep you.

And Psalm 121 repeats it again and again.

    The Lord is your keeper.

He created heaven and earth. He never slumbers or sleeps.

And in this verse, verse 5, he draws right beside his people as shade on their right hand. Close. Protective. Refreshing.

For Israel, this was good news in real heat, real danger, and real uncertainty. And for Christians today, it gets even better.

The God who kept Israel is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus, our redeemer, the friend of sinners, walked with us on the journey. And after his earthly life, death, resurrection, and ascension, he sent his Spirit to dwell with us, to comfort us, to be the constant presence at our right hand.

And so, brothers and sisters in Christ, if you feel vulnerable today, hear this again.

    The Lord is your keeper.

You are not alone. He covers you. He watches you. He guards your going out and your coming in, now and forever more.

Lift your eyes. Your help comes from the Lord.

God’s Passionate Pursuit of Your Heart

I was in college when I first eyed my husband. He was sitting on the floor at a friend’s Bible study gathering with his back against the wall, dressed in scruffy jeans and a red flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled halfway up his muscular forearms. His thick brown hair and chocolate-brown eyes left me weak in the knees. And the best part was that this handsome hunk of a man had a tattered Bible in his lap. Read more...
