The Riches of His Glory (2)

In the preparation of New Jerusalem God will “make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy” (Rom. 9:23). Glory is the expression of what God is; some example attributes among the riches of this glory are love, righteousness, holiness, kindness, compassion, faithfulness, and peace.New Jerusalem

The phrase the riches of His glory is also in Ephesians 3. Paul prayed that the Father would, according to these riches, strengthen us into our inner man, our regenerated human spirit (v. 16). The outcome of this strengthening is that “Christ may make His home in your hearts” (v. 17). This causes us to be rooted and grounded in love (v. 17).

Through this rooting and grounding we become strong to apprehend with all believers the unlimited vastness of Christ (v. 18) and to know the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ (v. 19). As a result we “may be filled unto all the fullness of God” (v. 19). The strengthening according to the riches of God’s glory brings us to corporate filling with His fullness. This is an aspect of the preparation of New Jerusalem.

The consummation of this process is verse 21, “To Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus unto all the generations forever and ever.” Glory to God forever is a function of New Jerusalem.
