To Vote Or Not To Vote... - Jewell Utt
We live in a country that allows us to vote. Yet many people don’t exercise their right to have a voice. You may be surprised to learn that most people you know are not registered to vote. Of those registered some have never declared–they haven’t voted. Others only vote during a presidential election year, and of those some only vote during certain candidacies.
So why are we so selective?
The obvious answer is that people are sick and tired of government. The dishonesty, corruption, and false promises leave the average person fed up and tuned out in order to survive. Add that to a bad economy and high taxes and one can understand why people have lost confidence. They strive to make ends meet. And yet…
Look at the alternative. Many countries in the world have oppressive leaders. People suffer persecution for their faith. Their voices are not tolerated, much less considered. The government doesn’t care about their vocation or their family’s well being. There are no entitlement programs, protests are unheard of, and violence is common to those who step out of line. Leaders don’t stop to consider their countrymen’s feelings on national issues. This is absurd in many places. And yet…
We have an opportunity to participate in the democratic process and should take part before we lose this privilege. When we become complacent, things become worse. I don’t blame government for their bad choices and behavior, since we have the ability to vote for leaders who share our values and principles. And yet…
One out of every five professed Christians are not even registered to vote. Two out of five who are registered, do not vote. It is our biblical call to pray for our leaders. It’s our civic duty to place them in office and our right to discuss their platforms. To me it’s of greater importance to pray for our brethren in civil matters. And yet…
It appears we’ve lost our way as a country. Yes we have issues, but we still live in a great nation. More importantly, we have the power and promise of Jesus Christ. It’s for today as well as tomorrow. He can execute change when we promote his will and standards through the voting process. And yet…
To vote or not to vote, either way you’re choosing a candidate.
