What Bible says on ordination of women

Should churches ordain women as ministers? Is ordination of women biblical? What is the interpretation of biblical verses on women ordination?

1 Timothy 2 vs. 11-14 – 11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

  1. Apostle Paul statement in this passage is one of the most contentious in the church today
  2. Some churches use this as a basis for disallowing ordination of women as ministers; and believe churches that allow women ordination disregard this verse.
  3. A careful and patient study of these verses shows it does not refer to the criteria for women ordination as ministers neither does it refer to how women should behave in the church.women ordination
  4. The passage does not say I suffer not the women to teach inside the church or to become silent inside the church. Nowhere is the word church mentioned in this most misinterpreted verse.
  5. Paul was simply referring to everyday relationship between a woman and her husband.
  6. Paul’s counsel is that women should learn in subjection to man, her husband. She is not to usurp the authority of the man who is the head of the family by giving directions and instructions on home affairs.
  7. Paul ends by saying the failure of the first woman to subject herself to authority of Adam, the first man led to the fall of man.
