When Creation Sings

Blogging

I wake up early and hear the sounds of the night orchestrating a beautiful transition to morning.  The night owls and the crickets quiet as the songbirds take over in a rhythmic chant that almost sounds as if they are saying, “wake up! wake up!”.

On a cool, crisp fall morning the dried leaves fall in a kaleidoscope of color, covering the ground with nature’s mulch to protect it from the harshness of winter.  [Did you know that you don’t have to rake your leaves?!  “For the Greenest Yard, Leave the Leaves Behind”]

…and fall rain cools the air and washes away the last traces of summer.

All without man’s help and completely out of our control.  The Creator of the universe, His vast knowledge and creativity, has designed it all.  And whether it is a changing of seasons, a life that is just beginning, or one that is nearing the end–He brings it all together in a symphony of praise.

I am reminded today that it is a choice.  Either we can see God’s hand in it all or we choose to believe that something came from nothing.  The beauty of God’s creation is that the more that man tries to explain it away, the more complex their answer has to be.  Because our finite minds cannot fathom His infinite power and creativity, we want answers to the question, “how?”, when the question we should be asking is “why?”.

Why would He go to such great detail to create the world as we know it?  A world full of fascination and beauty and intricacy.  Where the diversity of our culture is but a reflection of all of creation.  Polar opposite sides of the same planet–yet both are breathtakingly beautiful.

If only the world would open their eyes to see it, they would see HIM.

“For just as rain and snow fall from heaven
and do not return there
without saturating the earth
and making it germinate and sprout,
and providing seed to sow
and food to eat,
so My word that comes from My mouth
will not return to Me empty,
but it will accomplish what I please
and will prosper in what I send it to do.”

You will indeed go out with joy
and be peacefully guided;
the mountains and the hills will break into singing before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”  Isaiah 55:10-12

“Why?”  I’ll tell you why I think He displays such beauty.  God wants us to see what we often fail to recognize in the mundane.

The beauty of His holiness.

Like the sun shining on fresh-fallen snow that has never been touched.  Like the awakening of spring or the brilliance of fall color. From mountain heights to ocean’s depth, we see His majesty and power and artistry.  Creation sings.

Yet everything in nature pales in comparison to that first breath of our newborn baby.  A new life, created in His image. He was there, in every moment, from conception to delivery–in every struggle and every joy.  This precious gift of life, demonstrating our Creator God in all His glory.  Moments like these take your breath away–awe-inspiring, fall to your knees in the over-whelming presence of a Holy God kind of moments.  Perfection so bright you can hardly stand to look, but are drawn to its light.

Like that newborn baby, I am totally dependent upon Him.  Like a child wanting to please her father, I see Him and I feel safe.  Loved.  I know that He is everything I need.  He created me.  He knows where I’ve been and where I’m headed.  While His holiness displays for me what joy and peace look like, it also draws me closer to Him.  The more I know of Him, the more I want to know.  And so I search for Him.  In His Word.  In His creation.  In His presence.

And with all of creation, I sing.

Here are two of my favorite worship songs with this same theme!  Enjoy!

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call to Him while He is near. Let the wicked one abandon his way and the sinful one his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, so He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will freely forgive.”  Isaiah 55:6-7
