    Who Makes Up The Rules?

    An excerpt from my book

    The Shut up Book

A 40 Day Approach to Controlling Your Mouth

    1 Thessalonians 2:4

… So we speak not as pleasing men but God.

So who makes up the rules man or God? I mean the real rules, the rules that count for eternity. The answer should be God, right? Then all we do, all we say should be in the following God’s rules and in this, pleasing Him.

Yes, men have their rules too. Governments, organizations, and the place you work and even your family has rules that must be followed. But God’s rules supersede man’s rules. If man’s rules have a moral and ethical basis they should line up with God’s rules anyway.

So when you’re walking around in your day-to-day life your number one goal should be to please God by following him. It’s not all about just playing by the rules either. Pleasing God is all about your attitude, understanding and acceptance of the rules and rule giver.

People pay their taxes but hate to do it. People follow traffic laws but complain about the traffic lights and the congestion on the roads. We follow man’s laws out of fear of getting caught if we don’t follow them. We don’t like to be told what to do.

Our attitude toward God and his commands should be entirely different. We should understand that the love God has for us is in his law. Our love for him is shown in our obedience to his command. God’s laws are righteous, fair and in place out of concern for our protection, safety and eternal condition. In following him we please him.

    1. So what laws annoy you the most? Why?
    2. If you could make up laws what would they be?
    3. What is the most important law to you?
    4. What laws do you break and don’t get caught?
