Why is there so much bad news in the world today?

Memorise: “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people” (Lk 2:10)Read: Luke 2:8-12

It is the practice in public functions to introduce the special guests, notables or dignitaries present. One person that you will not find so easy to introduce is Jesus Christ. Matthew 1:21 says, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins”. To introduce his person, Jesus Christ may take a day or more because each timeHe does, He gives you a new name or title. If you meet Him today, He may say, ‘I am the Word of God’. By the time you meet Him tomorrow, He may tell you He is the Lamb of God. The next time you meet Him, He may introduce Himself as the Door. Occasionally, He may combine two and say: He is the Resurrection and the Life. Sometimes, He may even roll three together and say: I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. Whenever He wants to flex His muscles He would roll about five together and say: I am Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.One occasion, He reeled out eight names at once introducing Himself as Alpha, Omega, The Beginning, The Ending, The One Who Is, The One Who Was, The One Who is to come, The Almighty.

Jesus is a lover of names and titles. Simply, you could introduce Him as the God with many names. But why so many names and titles? It is one way God arranged to meet each of our needs. Whatever the need, there is provision for you in one of His names or titles. His names therefore are needs-driven.

In Luke 2:10, while introducing Jesus to the shepherds that night, the angel told them, “I present to you Good Tidings of Great Joy”. Why do you think He was given such a title? It is so that you will never sorrow again. It is Good Tidings so that He can cancel every bad news you have heard and turn them into good news.

Also, so that you can be guaranteed of hearing good news throughout this year and for the rest of your life. What is that bad news you received which has caused sorrow, tears, discouragement and much pain? I bring to you the Good Tidings of Great Joy. He shall absorb your sorrow and turn it into good news. This season, you shall receive good news.

Lord Jesus, because You are the Good Tidings of Great Joy, terminate evil news coming my way and cause me to hear only good news throughout this year.
