How To Receive A Great Inheritance In The Lord - Christian Perspectives

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatian Christians to straighten up a problem they were encountering. He revealed to all who read this book, how anyone can receive a great inheritance in the Lord.

God gave the promises to Abraham and his child. And notice that the Scripture doesn’t say “to his children,” as if it meant many descendants. Rather, it says “to his child”—and that, of course, means Christ.  Galatians 3:16

The book of Galatians was written to emphasize the liberty we have in Christ. The problem; some Jewish converts were insisting that Gentiles turn to Judaism before they could become Christians. So the Apostle Paul wrote this epistle to counter this perversion of the gospel

He considered what they were teaching as foolishness and also anyone who believed it. He went on to explain the benefits of living by grace. Instead of allowing the law to be their master.

Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ. Galatians 3:2

God promised Abraham way back in the book of Genesis an inheritance. This promise was given before the law, therefore the law had nothing to do with it.

I don’t want this to be a history lesson. So let’s take a look at how this involves us today. We’ll investigate what the inheritance is and why the law is important.

Receive the Inheritance from the Lord

Jesus fulfilled the inheritance that God promised to Abraham. Through the centuries, God never forgot about the commitment He made with Abraham and his faith. Now becoming an heir of God is strictly based on our relationship with Christ.

For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26,28

All who call upon the name of Jesus are a part of His family. We are all one in Christ. We can all receive an inheritance from the Lord.

In another scripture, it says we are all part of one body. In verse 28 Paul used 3 classes of people as an example.

• He said there is no Jew or Gentile. In other words, there is no room for prejudice in Christianity, no matter what color or nationality someone is.
• Then he mentioned a person’s social standing. There is no longer slave or free. Those blessed with financial means shouldn’t look down on those who aren’t. They should look up and thank God for His blessings.
• Finally, he said in God’s family there is no difference in genders. Both men and women are equally the same to the Lord.  We are all His heirs.

And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you. Galatians 3:29

Why the Law

Paul told us in one verse why the law is important and why it was given.

Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised. God gave his law through angels to Moses, who was the mediator between God and the people. Galatians 3:19

Today the law of Jesus governs us. He condensed all the laws of the Old Testament into two sentences.

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40
