    Overcome emotions with faith

You should know very well that emotions and sentiments are one of the biggest barriers to the Christian faith. Emotions and sentiments, when they are not handled properly and put where they rightfully belong, can eat faith for lunch.

Though as humans, we can’t completely rule out instances where emotions and sentiments would want to take over us.

We dwell in the flesh and we are dwelling on the earth where the devil, sins and immorality are the order of the day. We will always want to switch to the emotional lane and remain there until things get out of hands.

So it is not a sin to be emotional but it is dangerous to remain on the emotional lane for too long!

Jesus, when He arrived at Lazarus house after his death, wept (John 11:35). That was the emotional side of Jesus Christ.

But our Lord did not stay on the emotional lane for a long time – He switched to the faith lane immediately.

He said in John 11: 39-40

[39]Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

[40]Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”

10 ways to overcome emotions with faith: Hannah’s story

Now let us look at the 10 ways to overcome emotions with faith from the story of Hannah’s heart-felt prayers to God for a child.

    1. Background story

    1 Samuel 1:6
[6]And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb.

Hannah has attended the Shiloh program for many years. She always attended Shiloh riding on the emotions lane because Peninah always provoke her because she had no child.

So she could not get anything out of those yearly Shilohs

But one particular Shiloh, she decided to change things for the best.

    2. Hannah rose to change Lanes

Look at how the Bible captured it:

    1 Samuel 1:9-11

[9]So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord. [10]And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. [11]Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

    3. Hannah took a bold and Godly decision

But in verse nine at that particular Shiloh, she arose. She took a decision not to be sad again. She took a decision not to allow bitterness of soul again. She took a decision to do something about the situation in a godly way.

    4. Hannah received a divine idea in her heart

Because she took this decision, a divine idea came to her heart. God will always move when you take a bold decision to stop being heavy and worried about situations. He moved and put an idea into Hannah’s heart.

She noticed God was in need of a responsible servant in those days. Eli had missed it with God. His children have also become wayward too.

    5. Hannah vowed a vow

So Hannah thought of it that if she could make a vow to give back to God a male son He would give her, then God will be happy to make her conceive and bear a child son.

She prayed it unto God and she got the miracle of Prophet Samuel – one of the greatest Prophets of God in the Old Testament.

    6. Take a firm and Godly decision today

You need to take a firm and Godly decision not to feel depressed about the situation again. You need to take a decision not to worry about the situation again. You need to believe that God is working out something.

You need to take this decision. Decision determines destiny.

    7. God will surely react

Then you will see how God will come in with divine revelation and ideas that you are not even thinking of.

    8. If possible, make a vow like Hannah

Finally, you also need to tie what you desire to God in a vow. The vow can be: “Lord, If you do this, I will do this.” Or “Whatever I become, I will be one of the generation of people who will always worship and serve you especially in a generation that are not ready to serve God again”.

    9. Caution

Just before you make a vow, make sure you understand what you are doing. This is important!

Vows are meant to be kept because God will be watching to see how you will keep your vow. You should also know that the devil will be interested too as the accuser of the brethren.

    10. Let the Holy Spirit of God helps you

Can you catch that? You can let the Holy Spirit guide and help you.

Let this Hannah story give you inspiration on how to overcome emotions with faith. God is your strength.

        Who are You Becoming?

Every decision we make shapes who we are and who we’re becoming. The new year is a perfect time to take inventory of our choices and habits. Some questions to ask yourself could be: How did I spend my time last year? How did I use my money? What kind of content did I consume—what did I read, watch, or listen to? Maybe you thought you were actively pursuing Jesus this past year, but when you reflect on these questions, you realize you lost sight of him in the busyness and messiness of life.If thi

The Emotional Toll of Abortions on Fathers - Today Can Be Different

We often focus on those who have been victims of abortion – innocent babies, of course, and their mothers. But we rarely hear about how this tragedy affects dads. These “forgotten fathers” often bottle up their emotions, including grief, depression, anger and guilt – all of which can escalate to self-destructive behavior if they don’t seek counseling.
