Today’s American culture is infiltrated with a fear-based mindset.  At every turn, we are bombarded with idea after idea that is meant to place fear in our minds and hearts, and which inevitably holds us captive in that prison of the mind if we do not take captive the thoughts and their half-truths.

Thankfully, though, we serve a mighty God, who has brought us the blessing of His Holy Word, which speaks even to this notion of control, and seeks to free us from its bondage that we may walk with Him in peace.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” ~ John 10: 10

We must never forget that there is a very real enemy of our souls, and it is he that seeks to break down our minds and turn us away from following after our Yahweh in Truth and love.  If ever we are walking in fear, anxiety, anger, and sinful behaviors, we can be sure that it is not our Abba who we are following after, but him.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ~ Isaiah 41: 10

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” ~ Deuteronomy 41: 6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” ~ Philippians 4: 6

Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
  See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.” ~ Psalm 139: 23-24

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” ~ Matthew 6: 25-27

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” ~ Matthew 6: 34

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” ~ 1 John 4: 18

“I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.” ~ Psalm 3: 6

“You who fear the Lord, praise him!  All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!  Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!” ~ Psalm 22: 23

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” ~ Psalm 23: 4

“Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.” ~ Psalm 25: 12

“The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” ~ Psalm 27: 1

Why should I fear when evil days come,
    when wicked deceivers surround me….” ~ Psalm 49: 5

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
  I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.'” ~ Psalm 91: 1-2

“‘Because he loves me,’ says the Lord, ‘I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.'” ~ Psalm 91: 14-16

“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” ~ Psalm 112: 7

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” ~ Psalm 139: 14

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” ~ Isaiah 41: 13

“Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have taken my instruction to heart: Do not fear the reproach of mere mortals or be terrified by their insults.” ~ Isaiah 51: 7

“I, even I, am he who comforts you.” ~ Isaiah 51: 12

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
    whose confidence is in him.
 They will be like a tree planted by the water
    that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
    and never fails to bear fruit.” ~ Jeremiah 17: 7-8

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” ~ Ephesians 6: 10-18
