A Prayer for Guidance in Making a Major Family Decision

Written by: Marianne White

“Trust  in the Lord will all heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

God reminded us through this verse that we are not meant to rely on our own understanding when making important decisions. God is our ultimate source of wisdom, and he wants us to trust in his guidance.

We should trust God with all our heart and we should not lean on our understanding, because leaning on our own understanding can lead us to anxiety, worry, and doubt.

This verse reminded us to set aside our pride and our need to control everything, and instead surrender to God’s wisdom. It’s not about abandoning our own thought, but about recognizing that our understanding is always limited compared to God’s infinite wisdom. When we surrender to God, we allow Him to guide us through the uncertainties of life. Even when we

don’t fully understand His ways, we can trust that His direction is always for our good.

Trust God’s promises to lead us on the right path. This promise also speaks to God’s faithfulness. When we trust and obey Him, He takes responsibility for guiding us and making our paths clear. We no longer have to worry about the next steps, because God is in control. When we trust  Him with all our heart and submit to His will, He promises to guide us on a straight and purposeful path.

It encourages us to live each day with faith, knowing that God is leading us toward His good and perfect plan.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Lord, we come before you today as a family, seeking  your divine wisdom and guidance. We are faced with a major decision that will impact our family’s future, and we know that we cannot make this choice on our own. We turn to You, Lord, the source of all wisdom, asking clarity, peace, and direction.

Lord, your ways are higher than our ways, and your thoughts are higher than our thoughts. We humbly admit that our own understanding is limited, and that we need our guidance.

Lord, we need you at the center of this decision and every decision we make as a family. Help us to discern what is best for our family according to Your will. We pray for clarity of mind and heart as we weigh the options before us. Guide us to make a decision that honors you, that aligns with your plans, and that brings peace and unity to our home.

Lord, God, we know that making major decisions can sometimes bring stress, fear, and anxiety. But we believe that with you Lord, we trust that as we seek you, you will quiet our anxious thoughts and fill us with peace that only comes from your presence.

Help us to listen to each other with open hearts and to seek understanding in our discussions. May we be patient and kind with each other as we share our thoughts and feelings. Keep us from any discord.

Lord, bind us together in love and unity, that we may move forward as one family, confident in the path you are leading us on.

Give us courage to make the right decision, give us courage to follow your lead, even if it means stepping into the unknown.Help us to trust in your perfect timing. Teach us to trust in your timing, which is always best, and remind us that you work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to your purpose.

Lord, we submit  this decision to You completely. Not our will, but Yours be done. We surrender our desires, plans, and expectations to you, knowing that you have a perfect plan for our family. Lead us the path that brings us closer to You Lord, and fulfills your purpose for our lives. Whatever the outcome, help us to rest in the knowledge that You are in control and that You will guide us with your loving hand.

Thank you,Father, God, for hearing our prayer. Thank you for being our guide, our peace, and our wisdom. We trust that You are working in this situation, and we look forward to seeing how You will direct our steps.  We will give you all the glory, praise for what you are going to do.

In Jesus Name, We pray, Amen.

Sehnsucht in the Blue Ridge Mountains — Nicole O'Meara

Sehnsucht is hard to put into words, as can be seen in my painfully limited ability to describe what I felt at a vista in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some call it joy. Some called it wistful longing for something you can’t explain. It has been called melancholy and nostalgia. It is all of that, and mo
