All People Can Easily Experience God's Glory - Christian Perspectives
The Lord wants everyone to come to Him. Therefore, the Apostle Paul told us that all people can easily experience God’s glory. The first thing we must do is get rid of the veil.
But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 2 Corinthians 3:16
What exactly is the veil, where did it come from, and why do we have one? We need to start toward the beginning of this chapter to answer those questions.
In the Old Testament Moses went up on a mountain and spent some time with God. When he returned to the people they couldn’t look at him. As he was carrying the law inscribed in stone, his face was glowing with God’s glory.
So they put a veil over his face to blot out the glory of the Lord. Paul shared with his readers why the veil came about in verse 7.
The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away. 2 Corinthians 3:7
Then the apostle made a comparison between the old way under the law and the new way which was now available.
If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God! In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. 2 Corinthians 3:9-10
Veiled By the Law
If a person is not under God’s grace, then they are under the law. According to Paul’s teaching in this chapter, as glorious as the law was, those living under it are veiled. Making them not able to see the glory of God.
But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. 2 Corinthians 3:14
The veil can only be removed in one way. The rest of verse 14 says this. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. Which makes us free from the bondage of the law.
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
So we’ve answered the 3 questions from the top about the veil. When Jesus comes into our lives we also receive His Spirit. Because of Jesus, the veil has been removed and we are free from bondage.
The Experience of God’s Glory
Paul ended this chapter by giving us some great news. Now, through Jesus, all people can easily experience God’s glory. Making it possible for us to reflect it through our lives in everything we do.
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:18
Lord, sometimes we cause our own bondage. Help us to keep our eyes on you so we can live in freedom reflecting your glory always.
