An Envelope to Hand Out

On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 2:4

I once worked for a law firm delivering court summons. I was bringing bad news and got paid to hand them the envelope without discussion.

God has approved His sons and daughters to do something great. He has permitted us to deliver His word to the lost. Here’s the testimony: “God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

God entrusted us with the gospel, and He committed to us the message of reconciliation – that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. We are Christ’s ambassadors as though God were making His appeal through us.

Fellow pilgrim, we have an envelope to hand out. Our Lord has chosen us to deliver and proclaim it. This is a great honor. Let us speak as we ought, not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.

Remembering that the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth. That they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

How about you? Do you have faith? We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

“Father, we humbly thank you for allowing us to carry your great news to the lost. For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.
