An Update (For Courtesy’s Sake)
Greetings to my beautiful readers!
First things first: I was met with a wonderful surprise this morning. I checked the blog stats and, come to find out, this site has been getting views every single day! (And for once it’s not me! Ha!)
So, I’m not sure who is out there reading this and checking back, but wow. I’m so honored and grateful for you. Seriously. I’m not just saying that and I really, really need to up my giveaway game. Or something. I want to express how much I truly appreciate readers and just having an audience, especially since I haven’t been posting or writing nearly as much as want.
But there is a reason for that, and that is… *drumroll*
I’M EDITING.
(Also, does that word look intimidating to anyone else?)
I guess I should explain myself.
You see, most writers will admit that writing itself is hard enough. We procrastinate, and probably think about writing more than actually writing. (Which is why my manuscript, which isn’t even that long, took nearly two years to complete.)
But editing? Whole different ball game. (Whole different sport, actually.)
Editing requires so much more thought than just letting words explode all over the page. It requires more concentration. And quiet. And Pride and Prejudice soundtrack. And caffeine.
Last week, I took Friday off and spent the entire day going over my manuscript. (Yes, I drank too much coffee and listened to period drama soundtrack most of the day.) Thankfully, I got through the introduction and first chapter.
Then Saturday, I finished all of section one.
Which leaves four more sections to go.
I spent the weekend sending copious amounts of emails to my lovely editor; she responded to every single one and didn’t seem a bit annoyed. (Rebekah, I’m so thankful for you.)
I even had the audacity to tell her I would be finished editing my manuscript by the end of this month, which gives me exactly three more weekends (including this one) to finish.
But life happens. I have work to attend, taxes to file, and friends to do brunch with.
Who has time for editing?
Nevertheless, I am quite determined to make my deadline. Which means you, dear friend, may have more blog posts like this, and less faith oriented ones that I originally planned.
But God is good. If He allows me to complete this manuscript and send it back to my editor at the end of this month and heaven forbid get it published (one way or another) so I can share it with this great big world, or just you, I will be so unbelievably happy.
Because I know the Lord gave me these words and a story. He allowed me to finish them (something I struggle with on a daily basis). He directed me to a patient, Godly editor who sees potential in what I’ve written and reminds me of it, because I’m often plagued by self doubt.
So the blog posts may be a little scarce in these coming months. But I am still here, working on something that I absolutely cannot wait to share with you.
Thanks for sticking around,
McKenna
