As It Happened – kenbarnes.us

So Ruth went out to gather grain behind the harvesters. And as it happened, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father-in-law, Elimelech. (Ruth 2:3 NLT)

Life is a cooperative venture between God and man. We often try to do God’s part and expect God to do ours’s. We do the possible and expect God to do the impossible.

When you see the phrase in the Bible, as it happened, you know that God is at work. God was the great choreographer who put together the circumstances that led to the restoration of Naomi and Ruth in this story. Although God was at work in orchestrating the story’s plot, Ruth and Boaz were free to choose to be characters in the story by their unselfishness and willingness to serve others (Ruth 3: 10-11 NLT). God had prepared Boaz by blessing him financially in the work of his fields, yet without Ruth’s eagerness to take the initiative to go out and glean in Boaz’s fields, Ruth and Boaz would never have met. (Ruth 2:1-2 NLT). Ruth found herself in Boaz’s field because of her readiness to serve. When God finds someone willing to serve, there is no limit to what the Lord can do.

As you know, a closer relative of Naomi was in line to be the kinsman redeemer, yet he chose opportunistically, putting his needs ahead of doing the right thing (Ruth 3: 1-6 NLT). On the other hand, Boaz decided to unselfishly put his inheritance at risk to redeem Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 3:8-10 NLT). When you are at a crossroads in a decision, look for a solution that will benefit all concerned, not just yourself.

Are you in a situation where there seems to be no way out, purpose in your heart to serve? You do the possible and expect God to do the impossible and watch what God will do.
