Observation (s):
- David used the possessive pronoun “my” that declared his relationship with God.

my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. - David’s declaration of his relationship with God reached the point where he utilized adjectives and descriptive parts of speech to describe the role that God played in his life.
He is my shield, the power that saves me,
and my place of safety.
Application:
Who doesn’t love possessive pronouns and the ownership or relationships that they allow us to declare quite proudly. “My mother” is much more personal that “the lady who gave birth to me”. “My boy friend” declares a pride that “a guy friend” lacks. And who can argue about the different between “God” and “my God”. It screams love, personal relationship and a sense of belonging and ownership!
There is also something incredible which these relationships announced when our possessive pronouns are coupled with adjectives and descriptive parts of speech that show the specialness of our relationships. For example when “my friend” becomes “my best friend” or “my mother” becomes “my biggest cheerleader” or “my God” becomes “my strength”.
Are you like David who love and have such a special relationship with God that you use possessive pronouns and descriptive parts of speech to capture His active role in your life? God was David’s strength, his rock in whom he finds protection, his fortress, and savior. God was David’s shield, the power that saves him, and his place of safety. Who is God to you?
