Roaring Lion

1 Peter 5 vs. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 But resist him, firm in your faith,

These two verses contain very important messages that every Christian must understand.

1.      The first is that you have an enemy. Immediately you give you life to Christ, Satan has also committed himself to opposing you. Therefore you have no choice in this matter. The Bible not only describes Satan as an enemy, the Bible describes it as ‘Your enemy’

2.      The second lesson from this passage is that you can not avoid to be careless or to relax. Every Christian must possess the qualities of a Military soldier. The Bible particularly counsels Christians to be ‘sober’ and ‘alert’. You can not afford to go to bed believing that all is settled.  Several calamities have occurred to Christians through careless. As a matter of fact, I have come to realize that Satan exploits the ignorance and carelessness of Christians to launch evil attacks. Therefore, you have to watch and pray. You must continuously be spiritual hot.

3.      Third lesson from this passage is that the enemy the devil is always on the move. He is always prowling like a dog looking for an intruder. The more reason you cannot afford to be caught off guard. You must not cease to pray and fast. The moment you are thinking of relaxing, that is when the adversary may wish to gain an advantage over you.

4.      The fourth lesson is that the devil is angry and charges at his opponents like a mad dog. A Lion on itself is dangerous, not to talk of a roaring lion. That means the adversary knows its time is short, and wishes to devour as many people as possible.

5.      The last lesson in this passage is that you need the shield of faith to overcome your adversary the enemy. The fact that you are alive today shows the devil has no power to kill you. No matter the evil dreams, no matter the satanic oppressions, no matter the disappointment and downfalls, no matter the failures, and no matter the storms of life, hold on to God the Rock of Ages. Faith is the weapon to over the adversary. Have faith is God.
