Called Out of the Dark

The dark can be a scary place. My imagination runs to places I never think of in a lit room. I have never felt comfortable in the darkness.

When I was a young boy, my older cousins tied me to a tree and left me in the dark alone in the backyard. After a while, I was able to free myself. I never forgot the feeling of running out of the dark and into the light.

Jesus said there would be some cast out into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. These will never see light again. But there is great hope for us all. He also said, “I am the light of the world, whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. He calls us out of the dark into His marvelous light. He then delivers us from its power over us and translates us into His kingdom. What great love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called the children of God!

Fellow pilgrim, by the power of the Holy Spirit you are no longer a slave of sin and darkness. You don’t live there anymore. You no longer belong to the night. As the day dawns, let us wake up because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

“For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.”
1 Thessalonians 5:5
