Comparison Only Magnifies Shame - Denise Pass

Shame RX: Comparison only magnifies our shame.

In our desire to feel like we are enough, we often resort to comparison. But there’s a funny thing about comparison — comparison only magnifies our shame. In an attempt to make ourselves feel better, we are racked with guilt, instead. If we’re honest.

Comparison leads to a sense of inferiority or boasting, both rooted in pride. And pride leads to shame “When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom.” (Proverbs 11:2).

Comparison only leaves us empty and unchanged. Instead of comparing ourselves to other fallible beings, we can compare ourselves to Christ. When we acknowledge our need and come to Christ to have that need truly filled, we are changed in His presence and set free from the comparison trap. Shame Off Us!
