Cooperation for Salvation (2)

New JerusalemWe have been saved by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and we are being saved more by His life operating in us. This operation depends on our cooperation. Here are a few more verses about our cooperation on the road to New Jerusalem.

Philippians 2:5 encourages us “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” This mind is shown in 2:3-4, “considering one another more excellent than yourselves; not regarding each his own virtues, but each the virtues of others also.” This mind was also in Christ. We need to let His mind become our mind.

Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us, “Let us…put away every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and run with endurance the race which is set before us, looking away unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith.” When He enlightens us about what is an encumbrance, a limitation, we should turn away from it and look away to Jesus. He (not we ourselves) is both the Author, the Beginner, of our faith and the Perfecter, the Completer.

Second Peter 1:5 tells us, “adding all diligence, supply bountifully in your faith virtue.” We add our diligence to 1) the precious faith allotted to us , 2) the grace and peace multiplied to us, 3) the all things related to life and godliness granted to us, and 4) the precious and exceedingly great promises given to us (vv. 1-4). We diligently apply all these marvelous supplies to get prepared for New Jerusalem.
