Five Minute Friday
.

Most Fridays, I join an online Christian writing community, Five Minute Friday. We are given a one-word prompt and write – unscripted, unedited, pure free-write – for 5 minutes. Five Minute Friday is a great place to hone my writing practice and be encouraged by other writers as I write. I will set the timer for five minutes and then write. Here we go! I am excited to invite you in, welcome.

Today after a long time of word loss a poem has emerged like a sigh.

Cover

Are there words enough to cover
The beauty of a whole life?
Is there a way to live and love
Under the cover of grief and loss?

When you cover me in sunshine
Do I get relief and delight?
I remember a time I did before
Maybe I will again today
turn my face to the sun

A face can only express so much
But then it could also express it all
What will I use to cover up
My tear stained face?
Maybe I don't have to cover up

Under cover searching for clues
The clues I looked for were simple
Yet the complication of their discovery
Keeps them in the recesses of a broken heart
and yet beauty found me anyway

I will hope against all fear
I will trust again in that cover of Love
I will not be left exposed to the elements
I will not be forgotten by beauty
I am under the cover of Grace

Do You Feel Accepted or Rejected?

I went to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and had a big ole pity party. Once again, I had been rejected…come in second place…told I wasn’t quite what “they” were looking for. The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...

    Sleeping and Waiting

Sleep is crucial to our health. It’s our body’s time to restore itself and make sure we’re ready for the day ahead! Waiting, in a way, is like the “sleep” portion of our faith. While we wait, God works. And imagine all the incredible work He’s doing!
