15 Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.
16 And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succored him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.
18 And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.
19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
20 And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
21 And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David slew him.
22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.-2 Samuel 21 vs. 15-22

David is a specialist in overcoming Goliaths. As a young man he successfully challenged a 13ft 4inches tall Goliath to a battle after 40 days had passed and no other Israelite was confident enough to face the battle. With the help of God, he defeated the Goliath and achieved victory for the Israelite nation. Read the full story in 1 Samuel 17.

But the famed Goliath was not only the only ‘Goliath’ defeated by David in a battle. The Bible records in 2 Samuel 21 vs. 19 that David led other people to slew the brother of Goliath, and other three giants including one that had ‘six fingers and on every foot six toes’ (See 2 Samuel 21 vs. 19)

If you carefully follow the Bible, you will notice that the next Chapter 2 Samuel 2 Samuel 21 vs. 19 records David songs of Praise to God for delivering him ‘out of the hands of all his enemies’- 2 Samuel 22 vs. 1.

This chapter is a life story of David- his initial problems, prayers and cries to God, divine intervention by God, testimonies, and how he finally rested after God delivered him from the hands of all his enemies.

The lesson I want to draw for David’s experience is that you cannot have rest and have peace until you have defeated all the Goliaths troubling your destiny. In 2 Samuel 21 vs. 15-22 David was busy fighting and defeating his Goliaths. In the next Chapter he had Songs of Praise for achieving victory over his Goliaths.

We need to learn from this example and ensure we bury our Goliaths in order to have peace.

Who are your Goliaths? Your Goliaths are stubborn, insurmountable problems that are challenging the glory of God in your life. They are evil powers that are defying your God and putting you to shame. Your Goliaths may be childlessness, sickness, joblessness, or financial lack.

How do you defeat your Goliaths?

Surrender your life to Jesus; if you have not done so, to enable him intervene in your life.

Complete trust in God like David.

Do not entertain fear that the problem will consume you.

Look unto God. Commit the problem into his hands.

Cry to God in prayers.

Address the problem with the word of God. The Bible has the solution to every problem
