Eat your way to a better life.

Genesis 1:29 ~ Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

Genesis 9:3 ~ Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

Good day beautiful people

I hope that this post meets you well. Today on our series ‘How to live the best life’ we will be talking about FOOD glorious food 😊. What we put into our bodies can either fuel our bodies in a nutritious manner or wreck havoc within. For awhile now the Holy Spirit has been convicting me about what I shove into my mouth (sugary deliciousness… I’m a self taught baker you see, and I’m always sampling new recipes and on top of that I tend to go to bed with a very full stomach to the point where I can feel my food slowly rise up within my body when laying down). I would always tell myself that I’m harming myself and poisoning my body. I believe that you can eat whatever you want as long as you’re not allergic and eat in moderation!!

Proverbs 25:27 ~ It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep.

^^^ Eating too much of any type of food is not good.

Proverbs 23:20-21 ~ Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

Don’t allow food to dictate the choices you make. A lot of us have unhealthy addictions and when people think about addictions thoughts of drugs, alcohol, sex and gaming (social media) come to mind, yet a lot of us are using food as a crutch.

Proverbs 3:5 ~ Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

^^^ Depend on God not food.

Matthew 4:4 ~ Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Personally speaking I know that sometimes I rely on food to help me get through a tough day. Sugar is what I use as a quick fix to give me a boost of energy and to help me get through a busy day/shift. For me a sugary snack is a treat for hard work, it’s comforting to consume. The problem with this is instead of relying on God for strength or turning to Him during moments of frustration, I turn to food for power, when God SHOULD be my source of strength. Nothing should take God’s place in our lives otherwise that thing becomes an idol. And we must remember that greed in any form is a sin. In order to have victory over bad eating habits we must change our mindset (Philippians 4:8).

Exodus 34:14 ~ “You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.”

(Food can easily become an idol in our lives if we’re not careful, always strive to guard your heart from idolatry by meditating on God’s word).

Psalm 20:7 ~ Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

^^^ Trust God to help you get through difficult times rather than turning to food. I know it may not be easy at first but with God’s help over time you’ll be able to develop the habit of turning to Him for help during times of difficulty.

Luke 4:18 ~ “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,”

^^^ God has the power to set us free from food addictions.

It can be difficult to get the right nutrients into your body and eating healthy can be a challenge which is why in today’s post I want to share two important tips with you all.

1. Learn the specific benefits of the foods you eat.

Now, eating healthy is not always cheap but is possible. A good way to save some money is to purchase frozen vegetables. The great thing about frozen vegetables is that they lose fewer nutrients, they’re longer lasting therefore you’re less likely to waste food.

A major reason it’s important to know the specific nutrients which food’s provide is because if you’re deficient in a nutrient you’ll know the right foods you’ll need to introduce into your diet. A lot of people lack vitamin d and zinc, and don’t realise that there are lots of foods which provide a good amount of zinc and vitamin d etc. Vitamin d, zinc and vitamin c play major roles in helping strengthen the immune system and help combat symptoms of flu and cold, so aim to get your levels up through the food you eat.

From the pictures above you can see that some foods provide the body with multiple sources of nutrients for example mushrooms provide the body with zinc, vitamin d and iron.

2. Getting help from supplements/vitamins.

Some of us need extra help and struggle to get all the resources we need from the food we eat, which is why a doctor may prescribe you with iron tablets for a period of time.

Be careful that you don’t get yourself into a situation where you’re paying extra for a brand name that works the same as a non branded product (save your money by buying smart). I know of a person who works in pharmacy who tells customers that they can get items cheaper but expressed that because people are used to a name they end up paying more for a product, yet could have saved money by buying a cheaper brand with the same active ingredient. With regards to supplements beware that sometimes buying cheaper works out more expensive because the dosage is weaker, for example you may have to take 2-3 vitamin d tablets a day whereas another brand may only require you to take 1 tablet a day. So ask for advice and be wise. If you haven’t realised by now I’m all for getting discounts, I know that vitamins/supplements can be expensive and certain shops are a bit more high end, but a lot of online stores do discounts such as Holland and Barrett (H&B). H&B tend to offer 15% discounts often so always be on the look out 👀.

Thanks for reading I hope that you enjoyed today’s post, and may God continue to give you the grace and the strength you need to live well! Don’t forget that keeping active goes hand in hand with eating well 😉.

P.S. please do remember that enjoying good food is NOT a sin. It’s a blessing to eat good food, and boy do I love a delicious meal.

Ecclesiastes 9:7 ~ Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.
