Finding True Delight in God's Love

“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.” -Romans 6:22

When we think about the concept of being 'set free from sin' and 'becoming slaves of God,' it might initially sound a bit paradoxical. Freedom and slavery are, after all, opposites in the general sense. However, in the Christian journey, this paradox is where we find the deepest truths.

To be a 'slave of God' means to willingly submit to His will and guidance, not out of compulsion, but out of love and trust. This submission brings a kind of freedom that the world cannot offer – freedom from the bondage of sin and the consequences that come with it.

The beauty of this scripture lies in the transformation it speaks about. Before knowing Christ, we are slaves to sin, bound by our desires and the brokenness of this world.

But when we accept God's love and let His grace work in us, we embark on a journey toward sanctification – becoming more like Christ. This transformation is not just a one-time event but a continual process, a daily walk with God where we learn and grow.

This leads us to the 'fruit' Paul discusses in this verse. The fruit of being a slave to God is not something tangible that we can touch or see. It's more profound.

The peace surpasses understanding, the joy in times of sorrow, the strength in times of weakness, and the love that fills our hearts, even for those who may seem unlovable. This fruit leads to sanctification, a holy life set apart for God, and ultimately to eternal life.

So, where does true delight fit into all of this?

The true delight is found in this process – in the freedom from sin, the journey of sanctification, and the hope of eternal life. It's not the fleeting happiness that comes from earthly pleasures but a deeper, more lasting joy that springs from knowing and living in God's love.

Practically, finding this true delight in our everyday lives can be challenging, especially when faced with difficulties or temptations. The key is to stay connected with God through prayer, reading His Word, and fellowship with other believers.

In these moments, we are reminded of His love for us and find the strength to continue our journey.

Moreover, finding delight in God's love means seeing the world through His eyes. It means loving others, serving those in need, and spreading the joy and peace we have found in Him. It's about making a difference in the world, one small act of kindness at a time.

Therefore, we do not search for true delight in the external world. It's something we discover within our relationship with God. It's a journey of transformation, a process of becoming more like Christ, and a life lived in the hope of eternal glory.

So, let us embrace this delightful journey with open hearts, knowing that we find the truest form of joy and satisfaction in God's love.
