Defend the weak and the fatherless;
    uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Rescue the weak and the needy;
    deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

-Psalm 82:3-4, NIV

Do you ever feel like you have to be the “model victim” when sharing your adultery abuse story with other Christians?

This might manifest by quickly qualifying your story by saying something about not being perfect yourself. You may have to defend yourself as not being “bitter” as–yes–you do “forgive” them. That seems to be especially important to religious people–the forgiveness talk.

Notice how the demands for change or godliness are almost never leveled towards the adulterous abuser?!

We all deserve better than this!

Cheaters need to be held accountable or their souls will suffer (see Heb 10:26-27). And their victims need support as opposed to judgment and condemnation over how well they are handling being sinned against.

You do not need to be a “model victim” to deserve love and support!

I know many of you have experienced otherwise. But I am here to tell you that such treatment is wrong. This is not how God treats victims. He is very clear that those in power are to uplift the powerless (see Ps 82:3-4 above) and not add to their oppression.
