God, Are You There? — Michelle Blan
Do you ever feel like you can’t hear God? Have you experienced times in which he felt so far away? Has the feeling that God is absent ever made you feel spiritually alone?
That’s how I am feeling lately. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I feel disconnected, but more like I have become a bit distanced. I don’t hear him like I am used to. And no, I don’t think the CDC’s social distancing suggestions apply to our relationship with God.
It feels like being carried away to another time and place while listening to one of your favorite songs. 🎧🎵 Then, in the middle – just when your favorite part is a few beats away and your best air guitar pose is staged – your AirPods die.
Cue the silence. 🤐
Anyways, there’s no switch you can flip to make sure his voice comes through. There is no fairy godmother to bibbidy-bobbidy-boo it into happening. It’s not a secret that some people know and others don’t.
Sometimes, there is just silence. For good reason, I am sure. But, when you are in the moment, you don’t see that so-called good reason, do you?
It has me thinking…
The boys often get so focused on some How to Train Your Dragon show on tv that I have to raise my voice loud enough (or resort to banging something loudly) to capture it away. 😲 In fact, I always tell them that one day the house is going to burn down around them and they won’t even know it. 🔥That’s how intensely they watch a screen when given the opportunity.
I find myself wondering if all the chaos going on in the world around us has anything to do with hearing God. Like, what if we are like the boys? What if we (or maybe just me) spend so much time focused on everything that is going on, filling our minds with stories, pictures, and thoughts — that we just can’t hear him? Maybe? Come on, now. Work with me. We are in this together.
Ah, well. I didn’t post last week because I didn’t seem to have the right words to share. And, while I still feel like I should be sharing something meaningful and impactful, this is what you get from me. My honesty about God’s silence in my life.
As I go talk to God, I will leave you with something that I feel is important to share. 🦋
