GOD BLOOMS
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)
Forsythia bushes line one side of my driveway. They create a beautiful border between the road and property. I wanted them planted so I could enjoy spring blooms as early as possible, since I’m not a fan of winter. To my distress, each spring I notice their beautiful blooms opening everywhere but at my house. We live at the top of a mountain and the elevation is high enough to put us in a different climate zone. So for a few weeks I drive around slightly disgruntled due to flower envy.
But then I remember the Christmas cactus, which doesn’t always bloom in December. The year before, I had put mine in the basement. It wasn’t flowering and I wanted to make room for festive decorations. Then months later I went back down, winter blues in tow, and beheld an unexpected sight. There sat the Christmas cactus with radiant flowers spilling over every side. My spirits soared as I realized only God could do this. His timing is perfect, His flower my gift. Man named it Christmas, but He knew a better time to have these radiant blooms delivered right to me.
In Ecclesiastes 3, King Solomon writes “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” He goes on to list milestones of human activity and explain that we cannot fathom all God has done. But God intends that we see our times as a gift and enjoy the beauty in every moment.
So beware: when you look ahead for spring blooms, you could miss the winter flowers God has sent. Contentedness comes as you live day by day and enjoy all that God gives you.
Reflect on Ecclesiastes 3. He makes all things beautiful in His time. And look for a delivery from 1-(800)God-send.
