God’s Eternal Dwelling, Full of Glory
Revelation is a book of spiritual signs.
In chapter one there is the sign of the golden lampstands, and in chapters twenty-one and twenty-two there is the greatest sign, the sign of the New Jerusalem. The New Jerusalem is the aggregate of all the lampstands….Revelation begins with the lampstands and ends with the lampstand. The lampstands are signs of the churches, whereas the New Jerusalem is a sign of God’s eternal dwelling place and of Christ’s wife, His eternal counterpart.*
In Genesis 1:26 God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” Man was created in God’s image to express God. God created man for Himself as a corporate entity, “Let Us make man [singular]…and let them [plural] have dominion.”
In Revelation 1 the churches are portrayed as golden lampstands. Gold signifies that they have the divine nature and lampstands with shining lamps is for the expression of God. This expression is also presented in Ephesians 3:10, “that…the multifarious wisdom of God might be made known through the church.”
New Jerusalem, as the unique eternal lampstand, the summation of all God’s testimony throughout the ages, is a golden lampstand, “having the glory of God” (Rev. 21:11).
