He Gives Power to the Weak

Do you need a pick-me-up today? If not now, then the next time you need one, Isaiah 40 is the chapter to read. When you feel weak, trust God because He gives power.

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.  Isaiah 40:29

This not only speaks of how personal the Lord is with every part of his creation. But it also describes the vastness of his majesty in the universe.

The Lord has no equal! The next time you catch yourself trying to give God some advice, think about the following verses.

  • Who else has held the oceans in his hand?
  • Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers?
  • Does anyone else know the weight of the earth?
  • Or weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?
  • Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord?
  • Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him?
  • Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice?
  • Does he need instruction about what is good? Isaiah 40:12-14

Just sit back for a moment to marvel over the magnitude of the God we serve.

God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. Isaiah 40:22

Scientists estimate approximately 200 billion trillion stars in the universe. That’s a 2 with 23 zeros behind it. Look what Isaiah said about them.

Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. Isaiah 40:26

God is Powerful and Caring

Let’s say a person boarded an airplane to fly non-stop around the earth. It would take almost 2 two days to complete their journey. Look how big God is.

  • He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand. v.15
  • God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! v.22
  • He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. v.22

Even with everything Isaiah said about the size and strength of God, He still cares.

O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? Isaiah 40:27

Because of His great stature and power and because of His wisdom and holiness. God cares more for you than the rest of his creation.

Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. Isaiah 40:28

God is never too big or busy to personally take care of you. He gives power to the weak because He never tires, but we do.

Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. Isaiah 40:30

So do you feel weak and need power? Do you feel powerless and need strength? Then trust in the Lord, he gives power to the weak!

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. And they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

He gives power to the weak

Those Who are Weak and Need God’s Power

Do you want this verse to work for you? Then make it personal. At this moment, right now, it was written just for you. Say it just like this.

  • When I trust in the Lord I will find new strength.” You are telling yourself what you need to do. Trust Him!
  • I will soar high on wings like eagles.” Those you encounter today will want what you have.
  • I will run and not grow weary.” Remember, our everlasting God, who never grows weak or weary will energize you today.
  • I will walk and not faint.” The Lord will give you endurance.

This is not a formula. This is a promise from our God who is enormous, powerful, everlasting, and caring. And He says to us, “TRUST HIM.”

Pray to the one who gives the weak power

Lord, we are weak and we know you are the one who gives power. We are powerless and we need your strength. Help us to put our total trust in you to find that strength. So we can soar high on wings like eagles. To run and not grow weary. Help us, Lord, to walk and not faint.
