Holy Spirit: A great companion
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”- John 14:26
Walking in God’s righteousness takes so many sacrifices. Sometimes, you have to leave your friends behind, especially if their thinking contradicts what the Bible wants.
More so, not everyone can understand your journey because sometimes even our fellow Christians would judge our weaknesses.
Yet, God knows exactly who and what we need to accompany us as we walk in His ways and presence. He will be our great companion as we follow Jesus for His return.
When Jesus Christ was comforting His disciples because He was about to return to the Father in Heaven, He told His followers that if they loved Him, they would keep His commands. The Lord Jesus knows that keeping His commands is never easy, especially while we are here on earth.
He asked our Father in Heaven to give us another advocate to help and be with us forever- The Spirit of Truth. However, not everyone would want to accept and be with Him because He will only be with willing people.
The Holy Spirit is the perfect companion because He is reliable and trustworthy. He will accept you, for He knows exactly who you are. Not only does He embrace your flaws, but He also leads you to be the kind of person God designed you to be.
He is there with you during your darkest moment, giving you conviction and comfort. When you feel like you are about to fall and no one is there to pick you up, the Holy Spirit intercedes and reminds you about God’s eternal promises.
He will speak within you, reminding you of God’s amazing grace and love to strengthen you. He will help you open your eyes to see the light and hope in the Lord.
Furthermore, not everyone will pick you up, especially if they have seen the worst in you. People are not good at looking at the good side of someone who has made mistakes and hurt others.
Yet, the Holy Spirit will not treat you based on your shortcomings but on your name and God’s purpose for you. That is why you would feel at ease being with Him. He would make you feel God’s mercy and compassion, even for those who have sinned against Him and are willing to return to Him.
More importantly, as the Holy Spirit lives within us, He would empower us to be more like Jesus, loving the unlovable, forgiving the undeserving, and, most especially, enduring the hardships in this world.
Jesus Christ never said our lives would be easy and that there would be no problems, but through the Holy Spirit, He assures us that we are never alone in our journey closer to God.
God sent the Holy Spirit, so we should trust and rely on Him to finish the race and enjoy the rewards in heaven. We should be confident to be more than conquerors in everything, for we have a great companion.
