How to get good things from the Lord: Why you don’t get it

But how come some of these good things are not getting to you? I believe that’s probably the question on your mind as you read this. I want you to read the following inspired statement of Mary after she conceived the Savior.

Luke 1:53

[53]He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty.

She said, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that God always fill the hungry with good things.

Hunger and a thirst are needed to get things from God

The Bible passage above and the inspired statement of Mary shows hunger and a thirst are needed to receive these good things from God. Blessed are those who thirst for righteousness, they shall be filled.

Agreed, the inspired statement by Mary can be interpreted literally to mean God gives good things like food to those who are hungry but you and I know that scriptural statements like that means more than the literal meanings.

Bible passages of hunger and thirst

The hunger in that statement is more than the food hunger. The thirst is more than the water hunger.

It is the hunger and thirst for righteousness. As we can see from the Bible passages below:

Isaiah 55:1

[1]“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.

Matthew 5:6

[6]Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

How to get good things from the Lord: Check your hunger level

If you truly want to get good things from the Lord, you need to check your hunger and thirst level. Take a decision in your heart to seek more of God, His kingdom and His will for your life.

    The Mall or the Manger?

Much has changed since the God of the universe decorated the night sky with the star of Bethlehem and directed the choir of angels in a chorus announcing the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. But the commercialism doesn’t have to rule in our hearts and homes. This year let’s focus on the Christ Child and remember the true meaning of the holiday season. As we turn our eyes to the Babe in the manger, we will not view Christmas as a dreaded obligation or a major retail event. It will be a time of joyous celebration, honoring the One Who came to give us eternal life and worshipping our Heavenly Father.
