Is Alice Cooper Really a Christian? Alice Opens Up About His Faith.

    The Alice Cooper I Know

People often ask me, “Who’s your favorite person you’ve ever interviewed?” Without hesitation, I’d say that among the very top is Vincent Furnier—the man the world knows as Alice Cooper.

People react with disbelief. “Alice Cooper? Didn’t he bite the head off a bat?” (No—that was allegedly Ozzy Osbourne).

Alice never needed manufactured shock value. He lived the wild life. He walked through fame, addiction, darkness—and survived.

Some say, “He can’t be a Christian and still do that music.” But they’ve never heard his story. They’ve never listened to his testimony.

In the latest episode of The Greg Laurie Show, Alice shares how Jesus pulled him out of a dark lifestyle and brought him into the light. It’s powerful, surprising, and deeply moving.

Alice Cooper has a strong walk with Christ—and he is a storyteller unlike anyone else. You don’t want to miss this conversation.

How Meeting Elvis Presley Impacted Alice Cooper

Alice shared the unforgettable story of meeting Elvis Presley in Las Vegas in 1971. He walked into a penthouse suite with Liza Minnelli, Chubby Checker, and more.

Elvis pulled him aside to show him how to take a gun out of somebody’s hand. He then asked if he’d like to see his most prized possession, proudly showing x-rays of a broken jaw and ankle he had caused in a recent street fight.

Alice looked at that and thought, this is your prized possession? He said he realized Elvis had no life outside of his capsule; he was a prisoner of being Elvis Presley.

“ He couldn’t go to the movies. He couldn’t go play pool. He couldn’t do anything. And so this was his connection to the outside world, and I immediately thought, ‘I never want to be this big.’”

Fame at that level, he realized, becomes a prison.

Why Does Fame Leave a Void?

I wondered: For some of these stars who begin abusing drugs, or even take their own lives, is it because they get to the top only to realize there’s nothing there?

Alice shared his answer with me, “ I think if you don’t have the Lord in your life, you’re always going to be trying to fill that hole with something.  It’s either going to be drugs, or it’s going to be Ferraris. . . or this, or that. . . And you’re never going to achieve it.”

How God Saved Alice Cooper from Addiction

At the height of his addiction, and in paranoia, he sat alone in his mansion surrounded by his wife’s dresses hanging in the windows to block potential police. He had a softball-sized rock of cocaine and a gun.

He looked in the mirror and saw blood running down his face. At that moment, something broke.

He flushed the drugs, called his wife, and began the road back to sobriety and the faith he had grown up with.

He said God took his addiction away from him.

In the episode, Alice shares how God turned his addiction into something He can use, who Jesus is to him, and why he still does rock and roll even as a Christian.

He truly has one of the most amazing stories I have ever heard. If you’ve ever wondered whether someone can go deep into the darkness and still find their way back to the light—the answer is a resounding yes. Jesus is bigger than our worst mistakes. And He can take a setback and turn it into a setup.
