Is Death the End?
You know, we take death as the end of the human life.
And it is a universal basic assumption that human life winds up one day in death and the person is no more.
Of course, the physical body of the dead person is here with us but it's bound to rot away.
That's why we dress the corpse up, make it look nice, put it in a coffin and then go bury it out of our sight.
But... is that the end of human life?
The memory, the consciousness... Do they just stop there?
Of course, we can say the memory lives on but are we not more than memory in somebody's mind and imagination?
Is there not so much more to human life than just the conscious physical life we see around us?
Does the human life have the same fate as a dog when it dies?
Dogs die.
Horses die.
Elephants die.
But are human just like these animals?
We don't go into poems and songs when animals die because we know their lives end right there.
But we are human and we are different.
Do we have any proof that human beings are more than mere physical entity that dies and rots away in the grave?
How do we know that life for human does not just end in the physical death?
We have the evidence in the person of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
He was human. He preached and miraculously healed multitudes.
Three years later he was killed...
Did that terminate everything for Christ?
He ha earlier said that He was going to rise from the dead.
Sure enough, on the third day the tomb was empty!
He appeared to his disciples and told them, 'I'm alive forevermore! '
So Jesus proved that the human life does not end in death. In Christ, death became an entrance, not a dead end.
He died and he rose again.
He turned death to a doorway of hope. He proved that humans don't end in death.
Jesus was human. He died but that was not his end. He rose again!
According to the Gospels, Jesus was God appearing to us in human form.
He died.
He rose from the dead and he's alive today.
He's in heaven right now!
Best of all, He said he would come back again and take his own to be with him forever.
Therefore, the human life is not a mere, temporary life.
There is something eternal about us!
That's why Jesus came. We are more than animals. He gave his life and rose again, giving us a picture that every human being does not end in death.
There's more to life and there is a greater thing in our human life that goes beyond the grave.
Jesus was victorious over death and He's alive forevermore.
And we can be like him when we accept his call.
'Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"'
John 11:25-26 NKJV
'If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.'
John 12:26 NKJV
