Looking Forward to The Light at the End of the Tunnel

Do you ever lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel?

I do. This year has been unusually fast and furious with unexpected events (starting with my father’s massive stroke) on top of the usual fast and furious of life with full-time jobs and family.

The last few months have been especially difficult. My cousin and I were chatting yesterday, and we can’t remember the last day we took a  real rest. Life keeps throwing curve balls, and we have no choice but to keep swinging.

I thought I might get a break this weekend. I looked forward to the light at the end of the tunnel.

    No End in Sight

But then, my husband’s mother was released from the hospital after three surgeries and still recovering from a lung infection. This means my husband is now staying at her house in another town, over an hour away, and I’m cooking meals to see them through. Shortly after transitioning to their house, my husband was in a car accident. He’s not injured, but his truck required a tow, and it’s not drivable, so we’re down to sharing one car.

These events, piled on previous happenings unrecorded here, weakened me.

I thought I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, only to discover I was nowhere near the end of it.

    Discouragement tried to drown me.

    Light Revealed

And in this place, I heard Jesus speak.

I didn’t hear an audible voice. If I were to try to describe the way I heard Him, it felt like Truth moving through my body, commanding the attention of every fiber of my being, every fiber compelled to stand at attention and salute the authority of Truth. I’m not talking about chills or goosebumps. Rather, I’m referring to a deep, unexpected Knowing that simply took charge and changed me.

My mind, in her awe-struck salute, translated Truth into Word,

“Amy, you set your saving grace on the light at the end of the tunnel, but I Am your saving grace, Light with you in every tunnel.”

    Wow.

    A miracle occurred.

    Word made flesh inside me.

    A new creation.

    Discouragement replaced with courage.

    Weakness turned to strength.

I am no longer a woman in dire need of a break.

Jesus is My Rest in the Midst.

    God with me.

    In life and in death,

    God in me.

    Light in every tunnel.
