Marriage Advice Your Mom Never Gave You, Day 8 — GRITANDFAVOR.COM

    Pray for your marriage.
    +++
    You probably read that and thought, ”I do pray for my marriage. I pray my husband would pick up his stuff. I pray he would not snore so I could sleep. I pray he would help with the kids. I pray he would be romantic. I pray to not punch him in the face.” BUT… that isn’t what I am talking about.
    +++
    I mean to actually invest time in covering your husband, yourself and your marriage in prayer. According to James chapter four, we have not because we ask not. If something is missing from my marriage, let it not be because I never asked for it.
    +++
    Often when it comes to prayer we present God with our frustrations about our spouse. Maybe we are praying out of selfish ambition, desperate need for a glimmer of hope, or even deep seeded hurt. I challenge you this week to shift your prayers away from how you desire God to change your spouse, and direct them toward areas God can adjust you.
    +++
    Here are some super practical prayer prompts to get your started:

    1. Pray that God will help you be patient with your husband. Ephesians 4:1-3

    2. Pray that God would show you how to be a better helpmate to your husband. Genesis 2:18

    3. Pray for God to remind you that your husband is your teammate and not your enemy. Ephesians 6:11-12

    4. Pray to be able to release anger and bitterness toward your husband. Ephesians 4:31-32

    5. Pray that God would bring peace into your home and marriage. Isaiah 32:17-18

    6. Pray that you are a blessing to your husband. Proverbs 31:10-12

    7. Pray that God heals any hurt between you and your husband. Psalm 147:3

    8. Pray that God will help you be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. James 1:19-20 (this one is for all my fellow naggers! Oof 🤦🏻‍♀️)

    9. Pray for God to show you how to value what is good and detest what is evil when it comes to your marriage. Romans 12:9

    10. Pray for your heart to be full of good things so good things would flow out of your mouth. Luke 6:45

    +++
    Prayer opens our eyes to God’s faithfulness, grace, and reveals His truth for our lives. Don’t wait until prayer is all you have left to turn to Jesus. Prayer shouldn’t always be reactive but instead proactive.
