New Jerusalem Foreseen in Ephesians, 5

Ephesians has much about God’s eternal purpose and His economy, which is His management of all things primarily to dispense Himself into His chosen people to bring forth NewJerusalem as a corporate expression of Himself and a wife for the Lamb, Jesus Christ. This post continuesNew Jerusalem into Ephesians 2 looking at parallels between Ephesians and New Jerusalem.

Verses 2:1-6* present God’s wonderful salvation, transferring us out of death, offenses, sins, the spirit of disobedience, lusts, and wrath (none of which will be in the new creation). The positive side of God’s salvation includes God’s mercy and love, His divine life, grace, resurrection, ascension, and being in Christ Jesus. All are characteristics of New Jerusalem.

Verse 7, a conclusion of these verses, says “that He might display in the ages to come the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” God is rich in many aspects, including grace, even surpassingly rich. He dispenses these riches to produce His masterpiece (v. 2:10) to express what He is.

Surely New Jerusalem is the ultimate display of the surpassing riches of His grace. It is clear and transparent (Rev. 21:11, 18, 21) to be a proper container to display the riches of God’s grace in glory.

Do You Feel Accepted or Rejected?

I went to bed, pulled the covers over my head, and had a big ole pity party. Once again, I had been rejected…come in second place…told I wasn’t quite what “they” were looking for. The scarlet letter loomed large. It wasn’t an A like Hester Prynne’s in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book I had read in high school, but a big fat R that I chose to wear when life turned ugly. Read more...
