New Jerusalem Foreseen in Ephesians, 7
Ephesians 2:14 declares that Christ Himself is our peace. This peace has as its base the work Christ did on the cross. While He was suffering physically, He was at the same time working in the spiritual realm as described in 2:14-16 and Colossians 2:14-15.
We experience this peace now, inwardly, in spirit, as presented in Philippians 4:7, 9. This peace will expand through the earth when the Lord returns in glory and will be even greater in eternity after all negatives are cast into the lake of fire in Revelation 20. Then New Jerusalem will be the center of universal peace.
The basis for this peace are His accomplishments: He broke down the enmity (v. 14), abolished in His flesh the law of the commandments in ordinances (v. 15), created in Himself into one new man (v. 15), and reconciled all His people in one Body to God through the cross (v. 16). All of these accomplishments will remain true and become much more apparent in the new creation.
Then, “coming, He announced peace as the gospel” (v. 17). We realize this peace today because “through Him we both [believers from the Jews and the non-Jews] have access in one Spirit unto the Father.” This access is true unto New Jerusalem; “they [all God’s people] will see His [God in the Lamb] face” (Rev. 22:3-4).
