New Jerusalem in the Mystery of God (2)
Multiple New Testament verses presents aspects of the divine mystery. Many have a clear relationship with New Jerusalem.
Paul concludes Romans speaking of “the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which has been kept in silence in the times of the ages.”
Paul only briefly mentions New Jerusalem (Gal. 4:26) but the revelation through his writings includes much about the Body of Christ, the forerunner of New Jerusalem.
What was a mystery in the past has been revealed to those God has chosen (as in Matt. 13:25). Similarly, Colossians 1:26, “The mystery which has been hidden from the ages and from the generations but now has been manifested to His saints.” (but not manifested to everyone)
Colossians 1:27 has a mystery, “which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” New Jerusalem is a city “having the glory of God” (Rev. 21:11). This glory is Christ Himself and Christ in all His people. This is a mystery now but will be brightly revealed by New Jerusalem.
First Timothy 3:16 tells us, “great is the mystery of godliness.” This is God manifested in the flesh, first through the incarnation of Jesus and then through Him in all the members of His Body which eventually will become New Jerusalem.
Revelation 10:7 concludes the age of mystery: “in the days of the voice of the seventh angel when he is about to trumpet, then the mystery of God is finished.” Thus in New Jerusalem and in the entire new creation everything of God will be manifested to all. No more mysteries.
